The Realm of Feror
The Dwarven Aristocracies
Unlike the human houses, the Dwarven Aristocracies are still as active as they were in the past, which isn’t to say that they are as influential upon Raskan society as they would have others believe. Each Aristocracy claims descent from one of Wras-Kalla’s six children; as children often do, members of the Aristocracy are often wrapped up in conflict and intrigue against each other unless a greater threat causes them to unite. One must be born or adopted into the Aristocracy; many gnomes and halflings thus claim membership in the Aristocracies thanks to trading coin or favor for membership. When a member has reached adulthood (or been formally adopted), a cantor is summoned and administers the Aristocracy’s noble brand upon their right palm. Depending on the Aristocracy, this confers the newest member with some of the family’s power; it also defines which enemy of Wras-Kalla they are sworn to hunt when the goddess demands it.
The Blackhammers – The Blackhammers are responsible for much of the Aristocracies current state; it was they who politicked their way to much of their influence, forcing many of the other Aristocracies to compete with them in their byzantine games. This was because Wras-Kalla charged them with finding the cruelest and most depraved of dwarvenkind and punishing them. As such, they are reviled for declaring dwarves as their favored enemies, but do so because they must. After the Moonshadows, they are among the most faithful.
The Copperhearts – The Copperhearts have the most members of all the Aristocracies; this is because their favored enemy are also numerous – goblinoids. Though not as stout as their cousins, Copperhearts make up for such by being fleet of foot and rather quick, given the centuries they have contended with such traits in their foes.
The Grayfists – The Grayfists are workers of the numerous forges of Raskan; Wras-Kalla shared her knowledge with them so they could share it with their fellows. Their understanding of creation has made them adept in dealing with constructs that may threaten their hearths.
The Quartzbacks – The Quartzbacks are the stalwart defenders of Wras-Kalla and other dwarven settlements; most often their holdings are near the defenses or walls of a city. Because orcs have always raided dwarven lands, they are the Quartzbacks favored enemies.
The Moonshadows – The Moonshadows were once the clerics and war priests dedicated to defending the Raskan faithful; though much of their number has settled into their “rightful” place amongst the other Aristocracies, many legates and cantors still come from their numbers. Undead are their favored enemy, given that they seek to administer rites of sending upon those unfortunate to be enslaved by profane magic.
The Shalespikes – The Shalespikes once worked in the numerous mines across Feror, content to liberate its many treasures from the earth. When they found terrible monstrosities instead, they dedicated their lives to slaying them, declaring them their favored enemy.
