The Realm of Feror
The Kind Ones
With as many politicized conflicts as there exist in Feror, there is always the need for individuals willing to do the dirty work of the high and mighty. These types are referred to as ‘the Kind Ones,’ but never in the company of ones you don’t trust. The Kind Ones are assassins, blackmailers and rogues who will do whatever you need done. One summons them by placing two bloody fingerprints on the south-facing window of their home; the next evening, one of the Kind Ones’ representatives works out terms, and payment is rendered when the deed is done. Refusing to pay often results in the summoner’s death, as well as that of their next of kin. The price is often steep, but nothing the summoner cannot afford. That being said, once you have ordered the death of another, your name is permanently marked in their Record; this means that anyone who calls for your murder may do so free of charge, and without getting their own name placed on the Record.
Joining the Kind Ones isn’t impossible; all you have to do is kill someone who is on their Record. This can be a deliberate or unintentional act; regardless, they are then given the choice of payment for doing the Kind Ones’ job for them, or a contract within their capabilities. Failing to fulfill a contract (either personally or indirectly) often means you are added to the Record. The only one who may grant relief from such a fate is the Grandmaster of the Kind Ones; doing so causes the Grandmaster to replace them on the Record, and the Kind Ones to elect a new Grandmaster.
