The Realm of Feror
The Midnight Compact
Immortals exist throughout Feror, but to the mortal-minded races are often seen with derision and envy. Whether they gained their eternity through dark ritual or birth, the long-lived are hated for cheating death. The most intelligence conceal their nature through proxies and hidden identities. A growing number are seeing thees deceptions as unnecessary and disrespectful of ‘nascent deities,’ as they believe themselves to be. And so several immortals have been gathering in secret, enacting blood contracts with each other to bring about “the Long Night,” a time when immortals can rule all of Feror openly and with the respect they deserve.
Seeing the many ‘pretenders’ to the throne, and their counterparts in the city governments as nothing more than pawns whose lives are to be spent in the coming decades, the Midnight Compact plays the long game. Though initially made of vampires and liches, it has been attracting an increasing number of elves to their ranks. Their nominal leader is known as the Pontifex, who leads the Conspiracy of Primogen in planting the seeds for their eventual ascension. While each immortal personally desires the throne, it is the Primogen who keeps all bound to the Compact through Byzantine games of power.
