The Realm of Feror
Not all gifted with the ability to wield the forces of magic follow the ‘accepted’ paths of mystical power. A small but growing number of magic users are banding together to form a union of forward and free-thinkers known as the ‘Technomagnete.’ Dubbing themselves ‘Tech-Mages,’ they use their magic to power creations limited only by their imagination and force of will. Though they did not invent firearms in Feror, they did innovate ‘caster rounds,’ bullets that are empowered by their lifeforce with assorted mystical energies and earn the Technomagnete much gold as the aristocracy of Feror turn to such in an effort to harness all the might of magic with none of the required study. They also have developed other trinkets and gadgets, but these don’t sell nearly as well and are often commandeered for use as war machinery by the city-states against their enemies.
Tech Chantries have began to prop up around the realm, and apprentices are lining up to learn the secrets of the Technomagnete. Traditionalists see the Tech-Mages as a fad, and still greatly outnumber them. Still, the creation of caster shells is an open secret, and when a mage’s guild has needed some extra cash, they often take advantage of the Technomagnete’s innovation for their own ends. Furthermore, the insular traditionalists are more willing to help their sponsors turn those ‘toys’ into instruments of war, whereas the Technomagnete is a predominately pacifist organization.
